JDK Certification, Java TCK Compliance, and Liferay
With the release of JDK11, Oracle's new Java SE Support Policy (also see here) brings changes to the Java Enterprise community. The following article outlines Liferay's approach concerning the certification of JDK releases for existing versions of Liferay Digital Experience Platform and Liferay Portal.
Resolution
Moving forward, the only JDK major releases to be certified by Liferay will be those marked for LTS (long term support).
Liferay has chosen not to individually certify OpenJDK binaries. The compatibility of open source JDK binaries will depend on the Java Technical Compatibility Kit (TCK) certification of that binary. Meaning, if a JDK binary is Java TCK compliant or certified then that binary will be compatible for use with Liferay.
Liferay DXP 7.1 and Above
All Java Technical Compatibility Kit (TCK) compliant builds of Java 11 and Java 8 and specific JDKs listed on the compatibility matrix.
Liferay DXP 7.0
All Java Technical Compatibility Kit (TCK) compliant builds of Java 8 and specific JDKs listed on the compatibility matrix.
Liferay is not testing any JDK 11 distributions (open or otherwise). An upgrade of the OSGi framework is necessary to certify JDK 11 as compatible with Liferay DXP 7.0. These framework changes were included in Liferay DXP 7.1. Backporting these changes to 7.0 may compromise the stability of 7.0 and will not be performed.
Liferay Portal 6.2 EE
For specific JDKs please see the compatibility matrix. Liferay is not testing any JDK 11 distributions (open or otherwise).
